had a thought, yeah I know scary. anyway what if you unlock the door, remove the door pull/pin. then lock the door so you have the open hole. Now bend a stiff wire /coat hanger into a small hook and see if you can stick it into the hole and then pop it out from behind. Maybe even wrap some electrical tape around the wire to keep from scratching up the old surround. Like I said, just a thought.
