I'm betting it is a turn signal light which is the same as the brake lights in the rear. As soon as you touch the brake pedal or use the turn signal the lamp out comes on. Since you likely step on the brake pedal to start, the light is always on when you drive.

Turn on your headlight and your emergency flashers. Then walk around the car and check. Easy for one person to do.
