Dont use a extra battery, your going to get sparks and loose leads. You could also drain the fuel rail on the engine with a hose attached to the fitting. A/C service gauge hoses screw on and the fuel could be pumped out that way. Have it run to a catch can thats BIGGER than what you expect to collect. Dont wanna run around looking for can (s).

Being under a car and gas are a bad mix. When I use a lift I use a big fan to drive the fumes off and out the double doors. Fan is 10 feet away. I also have fire extinguishers, towels to catch spills, and a fire proof container to collect this into.
