, but the tank cannot be overfilled because of the overfill check valve. When the tank is "Full" this check valve closes the tank to more gas and the gas will spill over at the filling tube and run onto the ground via the tube in the gas cover unit. This happens if the gas nozzle does not shut off or you lift the nozzle out of the gas filler tube. If the gas over fill flap is jams then the tank can over fill and all bets are off. The tank is quite complicated and is a sealed unit, if it fails you have to replace the whole unit.
