When I was looking at bikes and wanted a test ride I had to show money, then they took a copy of my license and insurance.
I just pulled this off of yahoo and it seems to be a pretty good idea... I would still make sure they have the right endorsement and insurance though.
"The best way to do this is to write up a bill of sale with the provision that they can return the bike within say one half hour in the same condition as it left. If the bike is damaged or crashed - no return. Get the cash money and both of you sign the bill of sale and wording SALE IS FINAL AT 6:00 PM. for example. This will sort the serious buyers from the joy riders. No money - no ride."
