After my Eurocharged tune one morning after a rain I had switched to W mode for my gravel - mud driveway.. Later that evening I realized take off was a little off (little short of "normal" without my tune).. otherwise I don't think it affects the other range of gears.
I am of the understanding that W mode lowers the shift point for all gears for the same reason it starts out in 2nd, to lessen the power to the rear wheels.
