Re: Tires
I have had the Continental Extreme Contact DWs They are very good tires. The traits are very similar to the older ContisportContact 2s I have on the front now. The overall grip level is VERY HIGH. So is the comfort level. They handle bumps and road surface irregularities very well. The ride is fairly quiet, even over concrete. The tradeoff is communication. They are not the most communicative tire and I would say the responsiveness is on the low side for the max performance category. Traction is equally good in all directions.
Wet weather traction is shockingly good, probably the best in the category. I can't say on the snow performance, and you shouldn't be able to either.
I love the tires i have on the rear right now: Dunlop Direzza Z1 Sport STAR SPEC. The Star Spec is a softer / lower temperature tread compound of the Direzza Z1 Sport. I bought these to replace my Hankook R-S3s. The R-S3s were a GREAT tire...but only when warm. I've ran 1.99 60' times on them - which is great for a street tire on a low 13 second car - but they had very little grip when cold. Driving on them under 50* F was scary.
The Star specs were exactly what I wanted: the grip and communication of the R-S3s, but at a lower temperature. I live in Ohio, drive the car 3 seasons, and my driving use is "aggressive street". I have Mickey Thompsons now for the drag strip, so I have not raced on the Star Specs.
