After owning my XF for several months, I've discovered a few things. Hopefully others will chime in with their own findings. I searched for an 'easter egg' thread but came up empty.
Feel free to add to this list as necessary!
Some (or all) of these are likely old hat for you Vets, but I thought other newbies might find this useful.
CROSSFIRE
EASTER EGGS
----------------
- The door lock plungers are vacuum actuated
- Opening the glove box while the alarm is set will trip the system (fun!)
- Mercedes dealerships aren't very receptive (at least around here) to the shared platform, some are down right indignant
- The second stop on the intermittent wiper stalk is speed activated (woot!)
- If 40 seconds pass after unlocking the car, and no doors are opened, the car will relock itself
- After killing the engine by rotating the ignition, a full key cycle is required to re-engage the starter, starting the engine (although this may just be a weird quirk specific to mine)
- The ignition tumbler is "Tip Start", meaning you can simply 'tap' the "start" position of the tumbler, and the computer will automatically engage the starter, then disengage once the engine is running
- The US version of the ZH headlamp control has an additional pull stop (past the fog lamp stop) which is used as a rear fog lamp circuit in foreign markets (perhaps useless here unless wiring is run manually)
- You can continuously re-train transmission upshift points by rocking your Auto-Stick to the right while driving, or simply use this feature to knock down un-needed RPMs while cruising
- There is no 'door ajar' chime in the case where a door may be open or partially closed. Although the wooshing of air could be considered a backup.
- These cars cannot be run on a dynomometer (2wd) or accurately on a all-wheel dyno when in stock form, no matter how many fuses you pull.
