What a sixteen year old boy needs is safe reliable transportation to school and work. Maintenance and repair bills aside, have you priced the insurance? Once he has an accident, and he will, insurance will become a big issue. You are also missing an opportunity to teach him not to ever put all the money he has into anything. In a few years, when he's a little more independent and working you can revisit this forum and I'm sure some member in the Oklahoma area will be more than happy to help him find a Crossfire. You might explain to him the prices will come down even more (unfortunately) by then and he will get a better deal on a lower mileage car. Good luck.
