Default 285/35ZR-19 Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110

I have just purchased a pair of these for the rear, going on recommendations from the forum. In doing some research i came across a good article on the web from 2011.
Hopefully they will live up to their reputation.

Full article below:

Hankook Tire

Hankook Tire has developed a line of Ultra High Performance tires designated as Ventus that they believe Chrysler Crossfire owners will find give them better performance than the original equipment tires the Crossfire came equipped with.

Chrysler Crossfires were a product of the Daimler Chrysler relationship in the period 2003 through 2007. The Crossfire is a rear wheel drive coupe or roadster convertible that was built on the Mercedes R170 platform and shares many components in common with the Mercedes SLK320 from the period. There were about 83,000 built in the period as 2004 through 2008 models. Most were built as 2004 through 2006 models. By 2006 the production was being wound down and few except for Roadsters, were imported in that last two years. In 2007, only 2000 of the 2008 models were built mostly as Roadsters with not all of them being imported to North America.

I am a 2008 Crossfire Roadster owner (Inferno Red) and have been experiencing what others before me have, that is, serious degradation in the performance of the OE tires as they approach 20,000 miles of wear. Various Crossfire forums have discussed replacement tire brands and performance at great length. Satisfaction with various brands and types is mixed at best and most likely reflects the proper matching of the driving environment of each owner with the brand and type of replacement tire selected.

In North America, there appear to be three environmental situations that must be addressed when selecting replacement tires to get optimal performance from both the tires and the Crossfire. Those are: high speed, extreme temperature zones with occasional wet traction challenges; high speed more moderate temperature zones where dry and wet conditions with occasional snow occur and colder temperature zones with a higher incidence of wet and snow conditions over the year.

Hankook Tire has appeared recently in several Crossfire Forums as a replacement tire that some owners have found as a moderately priced and exceptionally performing replacement for their OE or previous replacement tires. Hankook Tire USA has been marketing performance tires in the United States since 1981, though they have been making tires since 1941. They manufacture their tires in Asia and Eastern Europe selling in 185 countries. Today, Hankook Tire is the seventh largest tire company in the world. Hankook USA entered the high performance racing tire market with their Ventus RSS Z211 R-Compound Racing Tire in 2003. The consumer line of Ventus tires evolved following and include the Ventus V12 Evo Summer, Ventus V4 ES All-Season and Ventus V2 Concept All-Season.

Visiting with Hankook factory, technical and sales personal while at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas last week, I talked to them specifically about a Hankook tire type for Chrysler Crossfires. One of the people I talked with is a past Crossfire owner and has worked for one of the Crossfire OE brands and a couple of the more often mentioned replacement brands. His insight was interesting based on his personal experience with Crossfire.

The Hankook recommendation was the Ventus. According to Hankook, their proprietary designs and tire compounds deliver high performance traction and steering for Crossfire while running much quieter than the competition. The tire recommended for the high speed, high heat summer environment is the Ventus V12 Evo. There are sizes available for both the front and rear to optimize the performance. For the milder and wetter climates, the V4 ES All Season is recommended. For the winter and snow climates, the V2 Concept all Season is the recommendation. A potential problem, as I see it, is that these do not come in the 19 inch rear sizes. The V4 ES or V2 Concept would likely provide the traction and steering performance on the front in those alternative environments, but using the summer high performance V12 in the back may lack some in the traction and holding of the road in the rear.

The Hankook representative had direct Crossfire experience with the Ventus V12 Evo only in the hotter, drier, high speed environment. He said a Crossfire owner should expect that the Ventus V12 with high silica compounds will run much quieter than the OE or any other replacement brand that he is aware of. A solid center rib block in the center of the tread enhances traction and braking efficiency by ensuring optimal ground contact pressure and control. The sidewalls are soft giving some roll that makes the tire feel like a premium touring tire. The directional design of the tread pattern gives positive steering feedback while the tapered blocks in the tread channel shed heat. The aggressive Y-shape pattern with wide linear groove in the tread effectively channels water away from the tire in rainy conditions. Underneath the tread face is a high density nylon reinforcement belt that leads to more even distribution of ground contact during cornering.

Hankook feels that a typical Crossfire owner should expect to get 25 to 30,000 miles on a set of Ventus V12. More importantly, the Ventus V12 should run at peak performance until about 90% of tread wear before the owner feels some loss of traction and control as compared to other brands and types which begin to degrade, in some cases, as soon as 15% of wear.
