Default Re: Belt Squeak when cold

Remove the plastic fan assembly :
1. unplug the big connector going to the fan.
2. remove the 2 metal clips that secure the fan assembly at the top ( just pry up with a screwdriver )
3. remove the fan assembly ( requires some effort getting it out past all the hoses, but it can be done )
4. remove the serpentine belt by placing a 17mm socket with a pull bar or long ratchet on the boss extrusion of the idler assembly and rotating clockwise. ( take a mental picture of how the belt runs first - better yet, make a drawing )

With the belt removed, you can spin each bearing/alternator etc by hand and listen for any nasty noises.

You CAN do this without removing the fan assembly, but you will have much better access with it out of the way.
