See if you can get the name and number of the shop where it is and do some phone research while you wait for the "salesman" to return. Just because the lot sounds a bit sketchy, doesn't mean the car is the same - they may not know what they have on their hands. Like Doc said, just over 2,000 were produced so these babies are rare. If you can find out why it's in the shop, report back here and we can give you a better idea of what you (they) are dealing with.
Above all, get a VIN history from a reputable source. Don't just believe what the "salesman" says ... knowledge is power
