Default Crankshaft Position Sensor strikes again!

The CPS in my '04 decided to go TU with absolutely no warning. At only 53k miles, I didn't really think it would go anytime soon, despite what I have read here on the forum.

Five minutes after leaving work, in rush hour traffic, the XF just quit as if the key had been shut off. It started again after 15 minutes, but I only got another 2 miles before it went out for good. Had to call the tow truck.

Anyway, the CPS is readily available - I found it on Amazon for $40 (Bosch OEM), so I ordered TWO - will keep one in the car as a spare. Followed the great replacement instructions in the Sticky. Easy 15 minute job.

One word of advice - you must get the 1/4" drive bit for the bolt on the CPS (exactly as it says in the sticky) - there is not enough clearance to fit a 3/8" drive socket (at least not on my engine.) Also, I had to lightly sand the shaft of the CPS to get it to fit into the very tight hole in the engine.

Keeping a spare CPS and socket wrench in the car from now on....

You have been forewarned.....again.....
