It should be said that the area of the rivets and the three springs should be inspected for cracks.
agreed (about inspection that is)
I just had an OEM pulley fail on my SL55 ... 2 rivets had lost part of their head (making them look like a "D") and one of the springs failed at the point that it "road" on the new stress riser created by the "D" of the rivet. ... the spring at the second rivet (that had also "D" 'd) was showing signs of accelerated wear at the new edge of its rivet (getting ready to fail).
I can only imagine that had I caught this at the point where the first rivet became a "D". I could have taken the pulley off and replaced all 3 rivets saving a few hundred dollars
