My Radio wasn't "locked", it was damaged, so I had to replace mine. I didn't talk to Chrysler, but the dealership I bought the car from did talk to Chrysler and that's how we found out the the US models don't have a security code, so it was a moot issue on this side of the pond. Don't know why that is - sorry
As far as an aftermarket unit working in your car - I would think it would, as the security only locks the the head unit and not the amp - but I am guessing on this - you might want to verify that with some people that know more about the Euro car stereo units.
