Default Re: Pictures of my new AMG repro wheels.

One warning I want to give to anybody getting aftermarket wheels. Many of you already know this but for those who do not then FYI.
After having my new wheels installed at the Goodyear shop there was a clicking coming from both rear wheels on the test drive. They could not figure it out and came to me and told me they think my emergency brake broke and thus the clicking. I told them that is unlikely. They could not figure it out. They were going to just leave it like that when I remembered reading on this most excellent and informative forum that the lug bolts could be too long and hitting the Emergency brake mechanism. I told them this and suggested they put the factory lugs back in.
They did this and the clicking was reduced a great deal but could still be heard. I went home and ground off 4mm basically 1 thread width off the end of every lug and reinstalled them and went for a test drive a walla the clicking was gone and all was right with the world.
The chrome lugs they sent me with the rear wheels are about 6mm longer than the factory ones.
I measured the thickness of the factory wheels at the lug hole compared to the new wheels and the factory wheels are about 4mm thicker.
So be aware if you get the dreaded wheel clicking that your lugs are a hair too long.
