I noticed this feature early in my ownership. It is nice not having the wipers beating away madly while stopped. I do however find it extremely odd (and annoying) that the intermittent has only one speed. Even my 30 year old Ford has several intermittent settings. What gives? Is this a typical Mercedes thing? I miss having the option of one swipe every ten seconds in light mist/drizzle. Either the blades braaapppp across a dry windshield, or I have to leave them off and continually bump the stalk manually. The one intermittent speed never seems suited to conditions. Is there any kind of a retrofit to get variable intermittent on our XFs?
