It is best if you remove or drop the rear fender liner and pinch the fasteners barb from the inside or you will snap them off and then have to totally rely on 3M tape to keep them on.
Thanks, that's why I asked first. Another thread I read said nothing about those plastic barbs in your pic. I just need to touch up the paint on one, so I think I'll probably leave them in place and mask around them.
