Very interesting, it was 36 degrees that day so maybe thats the problem and nothing really to worry about.

Mine did that when it was hot out side and I played the CD. According to the manual it does that due to over heating. A operating temp. device has been integrated into the circuitry to detect high operating temps. The unit switches back to the radio to allow sufficient cool down time. Page 118 NOTE: in the owners manual.
