Not normal for mine.
Might be time to connect a fuel pressure gauge and see if you have bleed-down.
Should read @ 50-60 lbs when running, if it bleeds down to 0, then the pressure has to build up before the sucker will fire.
Bleed-down usually means a new filter, ( if there are no leaks ) it has the valve in it.
( test port is at right front of engine on the fuel rail, you could just shade tree it and press the schrader valve before you try to start and see if there is any pressure at all - I advise to not be looking into the valve when you press the little stub !! )
