You need the plug tip warm enough for self cleaning but it needs to be cool enough to prevent pre-ignition. The increased air, fuel from your mods will produce a hotter chamber, hence the need for a plug that will conduct heat away better, a colder range plug conducts the heat away faster than the stock plug.
