To save $1,700 I'd think a patch could be welded in. Failing that an after market Cat and a length of exhaust tube would be way less. Do not let the CAT get away for nothing, there is platinum inside it and the scrap value is good bucks. If you pay list price for a Cat you want money back on the old Cat.

Get a look at the hole, otherwise you are taking them at their word and that is a very foolish mistake. They ALWAYS lie, it's in their blood.

They wanted the old Cat back, but they were probably not giving you anything for it.
