I believe the cause of the problem is the result of a clogged cabin air filter. I pulled mine and found green exterior carpet, mouse do do, an some other ufo material. I am guessing it probably was only allowing 10% air flow which would cause excessive heat to the motor and regulator.
There is a problem with the motor, clean up the brushes, one may be sticky in its slot and wipe the commutator with paraffin or electronics cleaner, check the bearings. It should easily turn by hand.
You may have to buy a motor, if so keep the control pack on it as it costs more than the motor if it is OK.
