Actually loaned my coupe RCM out too!
Changes of the particular part will show up in the last two pairs of numbers. If the first three digit numbers are different then the part was used first on that car model.
It is a hard system to follow, I have only an inkling of what it means.
RCM's with completely different numbers will work, Turbomar proved that. Would I risk it? maybe not, but I have an identical part as a spare.

As far as I know this is the basic system, sort of.
First three numbers = car model the part was first used on.
Second three numbers = part group number, eg. engine, transmission, body etc.
third two numbers = variation of part.
fourth two numbers = basic part number.

Example of system.
Illumination Control Module.
US version. # 193 545 00 04
Canadian version. #193 545 01 04. (Has day time running lights)

Parts starting with the numbers 193 were made for the Crossfire specifically.
