I was referring to the trap door on the back of the assy. I had time, just finished actually; for what it's worth my 04 DID have a spring and pin; past tense; I removed them sh1tz and we are all back together now. 1.5 hour estimate was spot on as I stopped for fedex and usps delivery and finished right about 80mins. that damn black connector under the assy is a pain; couldn't figure if it slid fwd/back/down; fyi its back towards driver! Anyway, awesome writeup. If this pin removal is what precludes ign from sticking my wife should be GTG! thanks to all on the forum.
