Could be any of the following:

• Supplier QA markings before the parts were sent to Karmann-Wilhelm
• Identification markings used by said suppliers for sorting purposes
• Methodical numbering based on order of parts removed from vehicle (if PO did a repair)

As long as the parts are working, I wouldn't sweat them
