OK, My Indy has repaired the car. According to him, he found the trouble to be a frozen (stuck) glove box door sensor. According to him, the glove box door is interconnected with the anti theft system and opening that door with the car locked will set the system off. He claims that he has researched the issue and found numerous postings from other Crossfire and SLK owners about this so the problem is supposedly well known and well documented.

Anyone else experience this?
