When I took the car around the block after playing with the reader, disconnecting the battery etc all systems were definitely off. I have driven the car some 60 miles since and the system now appears to be partially working. The lights do remain on though. Throwing the car around and slamming on the brakes was hairy on the snow bank narrowed roads but fun before, now it has gone almost back to normal. ABS does not work, nor the cruise control. The ESP does appear to work a bit though. They say you cannot manually fully disable the systems so possibly it keeps whatever it can going when there is trouble.

As I said before the 300's built in code reader is better than my Innova 3100 and the UltraGauge. It picked up two codes the others missed the AC and front left wheel speed sensor errors. I guess it stands to reason that if the car knows something specifically is wrong it should be able to spit out the reason.
