im not too sure ,i wouldnt think so as iv had the car running plenty of times before with the boot lid open and the spoiler switch light has never come on.
the part of the latch is inside the latch attached to the lid and as soon as the "hook" on the body is located inside the latch( that curls around it to lock the boot) it touches and clicks the sensor
i dont know what an electronics time out is sorry
