Mine was doing that too, as it turns out, I just had a single twist in the rubber strip that connects the fuel cap to the fuel door. I couldn't even tell that it was twisted by looking at it, but by twisting it a full turn one way or the other it closed perfectly again. Worst case scenario, just cut that little strip off.
