Default Rear Diff. Fill

Yesterday I decided to change the rear diff. oil. All went well until I came back after the unattended gravity slow fill I was performing. Several oz.'s of fluid ended up on the garage floor because the fill tube had moved out to the edge of the fill hole.... Damn It's hard to know exactly how much was lost, most of it is in, but my question is...... Do I need to drain and refill so I know the exact amount, or is the rear diff. a fill to the bottom of fill hole = full? I do know that it takes 1.3L or 1.4 qt.'s, just wondering if that 1.3L = filled just to the bottom of fill hole w/ the car level?
