The hissing sound is most likely the pneumatic line that actuates the lock in the hatch, the line is probably cracked and has not broken completely if the hatch still locks. If the hatch does not lock then it is broken entirely. You should replace the line with a better quality one or put a tight fitting sleeve over it.
The break will be in or near the rubber corrugated boot at the top of the hatch. Listen for which one it is.
