If you look at your photo you will see that the wiper arm spindle and the hole in the cowl are not on the same center. For this reason I suspect that Karmann did not instal the isolator (05101283AA) in many of these cars.
To correct mine I recut the hole on center, the original hole in the cowl is a bit too small so there is material to be taken out anyway, what we take away is concentric to the wiper spindle. I did a 'How To' PDF and it is attached here.
I found a juice cap that was the correct size (Ø1.70) and put a hole the center the same size as the OD of the wiper spindle (Ø.47) and scribed around the cap.
