I wanna do the same thing to my factory radio. I dont want to buy another unit. I would do the same setup. Where did you get the aux jack and where does it plug into the radio? Douse it plug into the "Simple" FM modulator? Hows the radio reception with the device installed?
If I purchased a head unit I would purchace a unit that has a rear view camera. The camera would turn on only when the car is in reverse.
