Re: All Engine Motor Transmission Mounts Failed 65k miles
UPDATE:
I got the mounts today. At first I was pretty pissed what I got is not what was advertised in the picture. In the picture they looked more like the originals. What I got looks like the mounts for E55. They are slightly taller - maybe 3/8". I think some of that height due to being new and not having been compressed over time. I might be wrong. Anyways, these seem to be exactly what TimeLord installed. So I figured since these were made for the V8 they must be better. That logic in mind I went on the great adventure of replacing the engine mounts. Let me tell you, this is not for the faint of heart. It took me about 4 hours (including some time cursing german engineering) but I got it. The hardest part was loosening and then tightening the top mount bolts. What a PITA. It was especially hard to tighten them. I also used thumb ratchet on top when loosened. I raised the engine with a jack and a 2x4 across the pan to spread the load ( I know not the best solution, but the pan is cast aluminum with reinforced ribs). For the left, had to disconnect the steering strut and took out 2 retaining bolts for the rigid transmission fluid line. For the right took the mount out and put it back in through the area between the alternator and the mount. Had to take out the steering heat shield for more room. Old ones came out easier than putting new ones back with the exception of the right side - very easy. Will do the transmission mount next.
