Re: Banks 1&2 Lean?
Did a lot of checking and troubleshooting yesterday nothing we did would satisfy the rear 02 sensors till we spoon fed it fuel with the engine running thru the large vacuum line that connects to the pass side valve cover. It loved it and the rear O2 sensors immediately showed the correct voltage on the Actron scanner. It didn't take much spoon feeding to get it in spec so we went after the injectors. My friend said that the PCM only knows that the injectors are supplying fuel but does not know how much.
Removed the fuel rail, filled it with top engine cleaner and let soak. Loaded the rail with 60 psi air pressure on the workbench. Powered each injector on the workbench with 12v and watched spray patterns and volume of fuel spraying. They were pretty ugly with erratic spray patterns and varied amounts of volume. Did this a couple times and all sprays were identical with identical volumes of top engine cleaner spraying out. Looked very good on the bench after this. Did around 10 trips with around 15 starts and over 80 miles of driving. No CEL, monitored voltage on all four O2 sensors with the Actron scanner and all are in spec and stayed there while driving. "appears" to be a happy camper again. Seems that it was starving for fuel.
I'm pretty confident this was the issue, don't know why the injectors would have been that cruddy. I run nothing but Shell premium.
I do believe this cured it but also think that a bottle of in the tank injector cleaner wouldn't have cleaned the injectors anywhere near the deluxe cleaning and actuating that I gave it on the workbench. I had already run a bottle thru it a few weeks ago anyway before the CEL came on. I don't think the fuel tank is contaminated, had already changed the filter and cut the old filter apart looked good inside. Just accumulated crud after 72K miles of service I guess. I will replace the battery next week.
Thanks for all the advice guys this forum is great!!!
