Default Re: "New" Car, New Member

I've been reading carefully about remotes. I understand that I need the transponder to make the car start. But how close does it have to be to the ignition switch? Does it have to be IN the switch? Or can it just be in the car, like my friend's 2013 Jeep? If the latter, then shouldn't I be able to get the junkyard fob to "re-program" to open the doors if I have both fobs in the car, with the original fob in the ignition switch?

Bet nobody's ever tried this...?
