Think more the issue is the ginormous drop in revs from first to second when pushing e.g. 4500 in first (24 mph) is 2600 in 2nd, nearly a 50% drop. No tranny likes that. If I want to go fast, I start in 2nd which is a lower gear than 1st in my Judge.
Also nothing wrong with the automagic trans. I have the same trans in my 4400 lb Jeep that pulls my 3500 lb trailer and has a lifetime warrenty.
In fact both Crossie transmissions turned up in Jeeps, same six speed in the Wrangler. (Where a granny first makes a lot more sense).
