The original equipment battery in your crossfire was a European variant of Exide. I don't disagree with your sentiments concerning VRLA batteries but why stop halfway? Get a Braille and save a bunch of weight and never have the chance of liquid escaping the battery. AGM and gel batteries do contain liquid and as long as the internal valving doesn't malfunction the acid won't leave the battery in non intended ways.
AGM and Gell batteries are completely different The Exide Gell cells they take very fine silica and mix with the acid takes some time for it to gell and very little capacity used mostly I toys, re Champion they used the name and paid a royalty which was GNB which I worked for many years which made the AGM battery for forklifts which was all I would sell, then Exide bought GNB after I retired.
