Years ago I read a book about a coast to coast trip such as yours. It stated with one gentleman betting another he could make it across the country. The twist was this was in the teens or twenties and our cars and highway systems weren't what they are today.

With visions of top down motoring across the country in a fun car I was inspired to contact a Florida manufacturer of a Lotus 7 replica in hopes they would provide a car in exchange for the publicity. What a concept, coast to coast in a fun car with photos and postings along the way. While willing to sell me a car, or better yet a kit, they were not as enthused about the project as I was.
