a) The mike in the faceplate of my Clarion is fine, even on the 'vert.
b) Can play music from USB but there is no indexing so if you have 500 albums on a 16GB flash it may be hard to find a particular song. Both phone and tabs have a nice graphical display by album, artist, or song.
