Re: Possible SKREEM module.. cont. from another thread
Regarding replacement of the Skreem module (my experience): If you are at a Chrysler dealer, be aware that you should investigate if the repair dept has a qualified Crossfire tech. Meaning that when the Crossfires were introduced (this info is from Rudy Compart so I can not take credit for the history lesson), that (many) technicians from Chrysler were trained to work on the Crossfire engine (a Mercedes engine). Fast forward to current day and these techs are hard to find. I have 2 dealers in my immediate area, one has one of those Crossfire trained techs, the other does not. If the dealer is telling you that another part needs to be replaced, there should be (I would assume) a trouble code for that part when diagnosing the engine problem. Also, their repair guideline should also define what needs to be repaired. (Mercedes uses these guides) In my case, it WAS the Skreem, it WAS identified and it was the ONLY part replaced. But take note, a simple valve cover replacement created a huge debate regarding the one time use bolts that secure the covers. It took NUMEROUS phone calls and debates to get the dealer to order NEW bolts when they told me the bolts could be reused. I have called Mercedes a few times and if the parts guy is in a good mood, they can give you info from the SLK in which IS the engine in the Crossfire. You can use Mercedes service as a back up. I have and continue to do so. Worst case in your case, have your CF towed to another dealer. Also, the Skreem is a part (as I was told), that was required to be returned (to Chrysler) in order for a replacement Skreem (from Chrysler) to be shipped. I am not aware if the Skreem from my CF was actually repaired/reprogrammed. I doubt it. The turn around time was too quick. I can't imagine Chrysler is that efficient. The repair was completed in a week. Good luck to you I hope this experience helps.
