The little light is for the REST feature. What it does is allows you to run the heater for up to 15 minutes when the ignition key is off and removed. It's really handy in the winter for keeping your car warm and toasty inside while you run errands. Look in A/C section of the owner's manual. There's a paragraph or two that describes the feature.
