Wow, that's strange. The best thing to do would be to go to a dealer and ask them to read the fault codes for you. Even when the CEL is off the car's computer stores a history until it is reset. You can also try an auto parts store -- some (AutoZone, I believe) will read fault codes and do other minor checks for free.
