Welcome, 11years late on finding the forum but what the heck.
I would write your problems downin a list and post the list as it will be simpler to see them.
The key problem is an easy fix, forget the hardware store. It should be an hour to fix and no cost. The stalling is probably an easy fix as well.
Write the list and each one will be answered.
