(I know the cap goes on the passenger side, so that does not need to reflect which way it goes since I am not sure if I spun it around.)

It goes in such that the air rushing by hits the long end first, by that I mean the back cut face is down. This will create a lesser air pressure toward the engine, the so called vacuum.
The face you have shown facing up will face down.
By coincidence I came in from cleaning out the catch can and read this post.
