You are probably right, but if you only have 1 key, you should have a spare, there is a contact here that can get them to you brand new, all setup with the transponder and pre-cut based on your VIN. About $155.80 shipped. I just got mine last week, and it worked perfect.
You could get the new key, and if it works, then get a replacement metal blade only for your existing. If it also acts up, then do the sticky key fix.
Also, please post pictures, I am interesting in how well these hold up after that many miles.
