I just got off a chat session with a Chrysler rep, and that is the official response. I posed some of your objections, but was met with the same response. The campaign (not recall) had a limited life, and it has ended. I bought my 05 roadster in in 2011, and had I known about the program earlier would have participated.
I have been using the 3M product for 2 years as the window separates in a small area and I have had excellent results. It is all in the preparation - clean surfaces! I have never waited for it to come completely off.
