If you have the OBD reader with bluetooth you can have this same setup with an old android smart phone or tablet. Although, not a nice looking I admit (or probably quite as functional for a night time dash cam).

I had a dash mount for the phone and an app that converted when power was received would change the camera to a dash cam, hooked up via bluetooth to the app Torque to the OBD for all the onboard sensors. The phone has built in GPS and the app records speed and location which then displays via Google maps. The other plus is I could run it for navigation as well if needed.

I ultimately stopped using it as it was somewhat hard to see (blinding at night really), and ultimately somewhat clumsy to navigate while driving. I would be tempted to have a more permanent fixture and maybe do the same thing with a 7" tablet at some point. I could always turn on the auto-dim feature... Kindle Fire is now only $50 new - I might have to look into this again.
