Default Re: Touch up paint?

For SSB owners: DO NOT waste your time or money buying the OEM touchup paint. It's way too dark and impossible to match the paint on your car. It is a few shades lighter than the graphite, nowhere close to SSB.

I have a nasty chip on the hood, about 18" behind the driver's headlight. I tried to touch it up with the paint I got at the dealer. I had planned on applying a little at a time building up layers of paint, and then color sanding to smooth it out. The paint was so dark I wiped it off as soon as I applied the first layer.

I guess I'll go to the auto stores or a paint shop and see if I can find a lighter shade of silver that may match. I have my doubts even that will work. On the right side of the chip there is a hairline crack. You can barely see it in the photo, but it's there and very visible to the eye. I may have to enlarge the chip to properly fix it and then it may be too large to touch up...

I HATE ROAD ROCKS!!!
